2011-2012
Varsity Head Coach
Jim Gatewood
2012 marks the sixth year at McKinney North for Coach Jim Gatewood. In his first
five years as head coach of the Bulldogs he has led the Bulldogs to two district championships
and a trip to the State Quarter-Finals.
Below are his teams accomplishments while at North.

Coach Gatewood also coached the McKinney Marshalls, of the Texas Collegiate League, during the summer of 2008 and lead the team to the TCL Championship for only the second time in franchise history.
He begins his twenty-fifth year of coaching baseball. Over the past 24 years he has coached in over a 900 games. 619 as a college assistant and 356 as a head coach. His teams have won 606 of those 975 games.
Prior to coming to McKinney North he was an assistant at the University of Alabama for eight years.
During his time at Alabama the team accomplished the following:
Four- 40+ win seasons
Five NCAA Regional Appearances
Two NCAA Regional Championships (1999 & 2006)
Three SEC Tournament Championships
One SEC Regular Season Championship (2006)
1999 College World Series (Third Place)
At Alabama Coach Gatewood was the third base coach, but also coached the catchers
and infielders. He coached the 2002 Johnny Bench Award Winner, Jeremy Brown.
In 2004, his infield finished third in school history with a .969 fielding percentage.
Before his success at Alabama, Coach Gatewood was the Assistant Coach at Malvern
High School in Arkansas. He helped lead the 1988 team to the State Semifinals for the first time in school history. He then became an Assistant Coach at Northwestern State University in Louisiana from 1988 to 1990. The 1990 team set a then school record with 38 wins and his infield lead the country in defense
that year with a .980 fielding percentage. He left NSU to become the Head Coach at
Richardson High School from 1990 to 1998.
Coach Gatewood was a catcher at Henderson State University in Arkansas from
1983-1987 where he was named to the NAIA All District 17 Team in 1986.

He and his wife Lee have been married for 21 years and have two daughters, Rachel 15 and Grace 11.

Assistant Coach
Russell Lewis
Russell Lewis has been coaching baseball for over 11 years. He has coached at the select level for five years. In 2000, he graduated from Northwood University with a BBA in Business Management.
When asked about his wife Brennan, Coach Lewis replies, “She is very supportive, loving, beautiful, and keeps me in line. Through her and God, my path stays straight.” Macie is his little girl – his “heart beat”. “She has the best smile in the world and has great energy.”
While at Northwood University, Lewis played for the Knights and had a stellar senior year. He was on the All American Team, Regional Player of the Year 2000, Conference MVP and 2000 All Conference. Russell played 2 years of Minor League Baseball with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals’ from 2000-2002 as a utility infielder and outfielder.
He loves to fish, golf, and spend time with his family. When asked about his favorite aspect of being a coach, Russell answered, “I love having the chance to impact young men, to help them with their character. I love to see them work so hard for a common goal. I love to see them get it. It feels great to know I’ve been able to influence them in a positive way.”

Assistant Coach
Chris Anderson
2012 is the inaugural year for Coach Chris Anderson as part
of the Bulldog Baseball Program. He
comes to McKinney North with a wide range of both teaching and coaching
experience over the past 10 years. This
includes stints as JV Head Coach at Sherman HS in 2001, Varsity Assistant at
Frisco HS in 2008 and 2009, and as Head Coach for multiple Select Teams in the
North Texas area between 2000 and 2011. He
also was responsible for founding and co-owning a local baseball and softball
training center here in McKinney from 2003-2008 and helping to co-found a
Christian-based Youth Baseball Organization (Texas Spikes Baseball Club) in
2010.
Coach Anderson played
professionally as a Catcher and Outfielder with the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston
Red Sox organizations between 1996-2000.
He recorded the 1st hit in Tampa Bay Rays History and earned
“Best Outfield Arm” and multiple “Community Service” awards with the Rays
during his tenure there. Between both
stops, he managed to mix in some time in Amarillo in ’99 winning a TL League
Championship.
Prior to getting drafted, Coach
Anderson played at Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK (’93-’94) as a
Pitcher/Utility Player. He then joined
NAIA powerhouse Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK (’95-’96) helping them to the NAIA College
World Series in ’95. He also lead the
team in homeruns in ’96 spending time as both an Outfielder and Catcher.
The Oklahoma Native feels blessed
to be able to give back to McKinney North athletes after living the dream of being
paid to travel the country to play the game he loves as well as being able to
use his gift to pay for his college education.
He looks forward to the challenge of continuing the great tradition of
McKinney North Baseball that Coach Gatewood and previous coaches have
started. Coach
Anderson and his wife Kimberly have been married for 10 years and currently
live in Little Elm, TX with their 3 children (Camden 8, Campbell 5, and Cruz 10
months).
