Special Sections Editor Dolan Media April 2006-November 2008 Editor on dozens of newspaper and magazine sections for Dolan Media's business and legal publications in Minneapolis. For these special focus sections, I managed every aspect of the production process—developing and assigning story ideas, editing drafts, and working with designers to ensure that strong visuals accompany every article. I also regularly met with company executives to propose future areas of news coverage, and counseled members of my writing team to further their professional development goals. Politics/Local News Assistant Pioneer Press February 2004-April 2006 As a member of the politics team with this daily metropolitan newspaper in St. Paul, I covered the 2004 Minnesota legislative session, and later, several presidential visits and political conventions. I also wrote and researched the Pioneer Press' innovative "Facts Unfiltered" series, which provided voters with unbiased facts on disputed political issues such as rising health care costs and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I then moved to the local news team, where I covered schools and government across a large suburban area. Editorial Intern Mpls.St.Paul Magazine January 2003-June 2003 Contributed front-of-the-book articles and other entertainment-related pieces for this monthly lifestyle magazine, which is read by more than 500,000 people in the Twin Cities. Writing Consultant University of Minnesota December 2001-May 2003 Consulted students in the College of Liberal Arts on the structure, clarity and style of their writing. Along with essays, I reviewed personal statements, cover letters, and other types of school and business correspondence. United Nations Seminar University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee July 2001 During this four-week program at the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan, I studied international politics under the guidance of U.N. ambassadors and program directors. I gained an appreciation for the role and impact of international organizations, and expanded my perspective on the causes and consequences of world conflicts. |
