Week of February 8, 2010

  • Class News  This week in Language Arts we will be concentrating on the letter "v". We are working on recognizing final sounds in words along with identifying the correct vowel sound in the middle of the word. This week we will be working on the phonograms /oe/ /ew/. Have your child listen for all the individual sounds in a few words (for example little, boat). We will be segmenting words (that means separating each sound in a word) In math we will continue to work on addition and subtraction. We are also working on pairs and measurement and dividing numbers into groups.  In Social Studies we will start a big unit on Presidents found on Mt. Rushmore. We will start studying Abraham Lincoln this week, and in Science we will start a unit on magnets.
  •   Upcoming Dates
    • Valentine's Day Party - We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wendesday, February 10th and Thursday February 11th. Please send in a shoe box or a tissue box. Each child should bring in valentines for the entire class. Monday class has 17, Tuesday class has 18. They don't have to be addressed to individual students, just have your child sign the cards. Room Mothers will contact you about the party.
    • The February calendar is up by the classroom door for parents to sign up to help in the classroom.
  • Important Information
  • Thank you for all the help with our field trip.
  • Thank you for taking the time to do the survey. Results will be published following the February Board Meeting. The classes will be receiving an extra recess because of the 50% response. We will wait for a warm day.
  • Don't forget to send snacks with your child even if they are having hot lunch.
  • Please remember to send jackets as the days get cooler. The school policy is that we go outside at any temperature over 25 degrees.
  • Classroom Needs
    • Have a Great Week, Mrs. McFarland
