This site is meant to contain some of the documentation I collected while reviewing various IT-related subjects: this is the 'What'. If you are interested in learning more about how this project evolved, just continue reading the following answers to the other four Ws and the H.
Who?The realization of this site is a personal initiative. To introduce myself in a few words, I'm a network engineer obsessed by a pervasive will of perfection, and constantly coping with an appealing universe of knowledge to tame. For a more detailed and formal introduction, you can have a look at my resume. When?First of all, as a premise, you should know that I've always found it essential to take concise notes when I study, because it helps me focus on basic facts and keep them in mind. An early idea for this site came up about one year ago: it was after taking the Cisco CCNA examination that I realized my old bad habit of keeping notes on paper was getting more and more inefficient. Why?As I mentioned, all the notes I took for the CCNA where on some unusable, unsearchable and unnecessary paper sheets. So I looked for an alternative, and electronic storage immediately seemed the most convenient one. But how, in detail? How?First of all, I designed the structure for my notes around a documentation framework proposed by my software engineering teacher at university. As for the format, at first I chosen HTML to have all my work ready for web provisioning; however, I soon had enough of dealing with presentation details and defining my own graphical standards. As a solution, I've started using the Docbook XML format and taking advantage of the XMLMind editor to manipulate data files: I'm very satisfied with this methodology up to now, because it allows me to devote myself to 'business' and transform my documents to several other formats with just a few shell commands. At present, I think my project is mature enough to make some of my notes available 'in the cloud'. Where?Because of my ambitious educational goals, I find myself studying (and, consequently, taking notes) as soon as I have a few minutes. So, I think the correct answer is 'everywhere', and I cannot blame my wife for a little jealousy caused by an extra-marital affair with an Apple computer. |
