Welcome!

Such is the nature of having a 'personal' research website that as you read it's going out of date! My latest profile is at my new website, but stick around here for a snapshot of my PhD research from October 2005 to 2009.

You can classify me as a 'social media analyst',  who is at the forefront of an emerging, newly digitally connected culture.  A culture I have chosen to frame for the reserach as the 'Seriously Social' in everyday life.

Seriously, Social?

Oh Yes! As the pervasive and collective social presence, which  serve as extensions for social interaction.  Increasingly social presence represents the ultimate cultural expression of being ‘in touch’.  Alongside social presence we have an almost casual and expected form of social surveillance of each other.  Together these create new opportunities and represent new dilemmas for everyday social action(s).

Rituals and etiquette

Social rules and behaviour etiquette underpin all interactions.  The individual is highly immersed, self-reflexive and attentive to being seriously social at all times.

The research is based on the interactions of young people as the leading users of social media.  Identified by some as a 'Generation-i ' this group take for granted a highly sophisticated set of technologies to connect and create networks across an array of social media platforms and shared content of a 'Web 2.0'.

When not theorising, analysing or jumping on the band-wagon of the next big thing I write for numerous blogs and contribute to other social media channels such as the international GirlyGeekdom and AssignmentZeroNews.
