Find an outdated technology and stick with it.
Here you'll find information on all of my homebuilt synthesiser circuits and circuit-bends. I'm no genius, but there are others out there. I steal their designs and occasionally get them to work. You'll find links to the designers own websites as well as pretty pictures of my work. Click on the headings for bigger pictures. MiniMAZThis is Ray Wilson's Soundlab (see Music From Outer Space link). It was the first synth I built and I couldn't resist my own vanity in re-naming it. It's a great first synth to build and there are loads of mods available for it. Check out the website... Zany Wacky Noise BoxAnother Ray Wilson design (WSG). Soo so simple. I built mine on stripboard and stuck it in an old CD spindle. The push button I used is an on-off switch but you can press it half way to use as a momentary switch for those short electronic blip type noises. Again there are lots of mods documented around the web. Go on, give it a go... Front PanelsFor these I use Front Panel Designer to draw them out and then send them to Steve Thomas at CNC Panels (see link). Above we can see my modules as they are now. Most of the modules are built around Ken Stone's CatGirlSynth (CGS). If you want to use any of my front panel designs then feel free. Here are the files with a brief description. Utility Module - from modulus magazine (link when I find it again). One of my first designs, took me ages to figure out the normalised connections. I quite like the look of this one. Burst Generator - CGS06 Simple Dual LFO - CGS58 - I took out the combined waveform outputs and replaced with simple invertors on the 1st lfo using the spare op amps. I like the way that the o's of one & two are actually the rate LEDs. Psycho LFO - CGS03 - This was the first one I wired up to find it worked first time. If I this one again it would be without the depth knob which is not needed if you attenuate on the inputs. Triple Bandpass Filter with Mixer - CGS30(x3) & CGS04 - This is my favourite so far in terms of looks. Even from behind it looks quite tidy! Steiner Filter - CGS35 | SDIY LinksRay Wilson's site with excellent schematics and PCBs to buy to build your first synthesisers. Start here!
Ken Stone's site with his range of excellent synth modules. Amazing circuits, amazingly cheap PCBs.
Not DIY but great analogue modules for your money. This is where I started my analogue journey and is my chosen format for my home-made modules. Front Panel Designer- free software for designing Front Panels. Really.
Takes your front panel designs and makes them a reality. Good quality and great prices. |
