At a recent church meeting decisions were taken about the proposed events for 2012. Below are the events proposed:
Lent Course: It was agreed that the bible fellowship group should meet every Tuesday in Lent and finish with a meal on April 3rd. It was agreed that this should not be a passover meal this year. Easter: As in previous years, it was agreed that there will be service at 7-30p.m. on Good Friday. There will be a coffee morning on Saturday. On Easter morning there will be a communion service at 8-30a.m. Followed by breakfast. The morning service will follow at 10-30a.m. Coffee mornings: It was agreed that these should continue as they are good events, but subject to volunteers being available. People are urged to consider whether they can offer a date for this important ministry. It was agreed that there could be a Car Wash event at two of the coffee mornings in aid of the Duke of Edinburgh's gold expedition. Supper Club: It was agreed that these should continue, starting in April. Jubilee Bank Holiday: It was agreed that we should hold a Teddy Bears' Picnic on the Monday, together with a display of memorabilia of H.M.'s reign. Flower Festival: It was agreed that this should be held on the weekend of 23th/24th June to avoid conference and people's holidays. No theme was decided, but people were invited to offer suggestions to the next meeting. Love Feast: An outing to a love feast in Derbyshire was suggested. Family Camp: It was agreed that this should be in August and that a suitable dateshopuld be decided later. Harvest Festival: As in previous years this will be on the first weekend of October. This will be followed by a “Five crops and choruses” on the 11th Oct. Festival of Light: It was agreed that this should be held on 31st October, 5-00p.m. to 9-00p.m. There was some discussion about the title of the event. People were invited to make any alternative suggestions. Bonfire night: It was agreed that this should take place on Saturday 3rd November 2012. After some discussion about safety, it was agreed that some form of perimeter marker/fence was desirable to reduce the number of people getting close to the fire. Christmas: It was agreed that the carol service would be on Sunday 23rd Dec. at 3-00p.m., but that carolling round the valley should take place on Monday 17th Dec. As usual there would be a Christmas Day service at 10-30a.m. Animal Service: The animal services had been successful in the past so it was agreed to hold another one in 2012. This was fixed for 22nd July at 4-30p.m. Ramblers' or Walkers' service:
There was some discussion about how we might hold a Ramblers or Walkers act of worship. It was discussed whether this could be a family based event. This idea will be investigated further and discussed further at a later meeting. Needlework Days: The needlework days will continue. It was agreed that there could be an exhibition of work by the participants, hopefully at the Harvest weekend. Book Festival: Jonathan suggested a book festival where people bring surplus books, take away books which they want and leave a donation for the charity. Surplus books could be given to a charity shop. Joyce suggested that some of the surplus could form the basis of a library for the coffee mornings. The meeting agreed and Jonathan will find a suitable Saturday. This was later fixed as the weekend of 4th and 5th August. Charities: As previously agreed, we shall be supporting the Union appeal for latrines in Africa. The meeting also agreed that we support the Street Pastors. Other Dates: It was agreed that we have a TEAR Fund Sunday on 11th March, and a Youth Sunday on 2nd December. A date will be arranged with a suitable speaker for an Overseas Sunday. Hopefully a suitable date will be organised in July for the Christian Motorcyclists Association to lead a service. |
