LABELS

The first change you may notice when you're writing a blog post is that there is a space at the bottom of the post to enter Labels for that post. This is one of the cool things about the new  blogger. These labels will act as "categories" on our blog -- we'll have a list of these on the sidebar and all you have to do to go to all posts in a certain category is click on one of those categories and boom! It brings up all those posts.

This is something I've been wanting to have on our blog for a long time. Trouble is, with labels in a team blog, we could get carried away with too many labels and pretty soon the sidebar will have a mile-long list of categories. So for now I am going to make a rule (I get to -- I'm admin) that we stick to pre-determined categories. If you think of better category labels, or want to change them, please let me know by emailing me and I will try to shift things around. The goal is to have a manageable list of categories.

Here are some suggested categories. If you're a couple, use both first names like this:

  • Pat
  • Mark and Judy
  • Maureen and Tim
  • Peter and Roma
  • Kathy and Jerry
  • Margie and Al
  • Tommy
  • Moira and Brian
  • Marybeth and Julian
  • Tootsie and Johnny
  • Edward and MaryLynn

Grandkids, for now, let's try using your first names, too. Like this:

  • Gabe
  • Mickey
  • Brenda
  • David and Amy
  • Chris and Elena
  • Steph
  • Mel
  • Josh
  • Nicholas
  • Ollie
  • etc

Hoo boy! I can see the list is going to be long. This might not work. Hmmmmm, well let's try it and if it gets too long we'll figure out something different. I might be able to put the list of categories on it's own separate page within the blog.

Other Suggested Categories:

  • Travel
  • Recipes
  • Photos
  • Reunion
  • Birthdays
  • Celebrate
  • Announcements
  • Cool Stuff
  • Homemade Stuff
  • Crafts
  • Artwork
  • Gardening
  • Building
  • Fun
  • Pets
  • Videos
  • Music
  • Blogging (for tips and how-tos on blogging)
  • Alerts (stuff like this - techie bloggie announcement thingies)

I'm all thinked-out. Gotta go to the market to get fish for dinner. I expect to hear some discussion of the categories thingie.  Check out the list of categories in the side bar the blog home page ... I put category labels on a couple dozen posts, so you can see how it works. I would really appreciate everyone going back through their past posts and labeling them (that is, if you want them to be included in the categories links) because it is a bit time consuming for me to have to label all of the 330+ posts myself.
