If people do not believe that mathematics is simple,
it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

South Page Community School

Mrs. Olson   2011-2012

Students will be expected to:

be in their seats and on time to class. This means the restroom will have been used, all material will have been retrieved from the locker, and all other necessary activities will be completed before the start of class. Class will begin promptly at the given time, and we will not give up our valuable time.

be prepared for class. In order to be prepared, textbook, assignments, notebooks, pencil, calculator, and all other materials will be on your desk and ready for use. Furthermore, have nothing but these objects on your desk. DO NOT work on anything else during our class.

listen and remain seated while others are speaking. This includes situations such as group discussions and during the teacher's lesson. Raise your hand if you would like to speak.

be respectful. First, respect yourself by maximizing your class experience by participating in class, completing assignments, and paying attention. Second, show respect for the teacher and other students. No one should disrupt the learning process.

obey all school rules and policies. This includes leaving food and drink in the cafeteria. Also, use of cell phones, cd players, mp3 players, etc. will be allowed in hallways but not in classrooms without permission of the instructor.

Grading Procedures

A variety of assessments will be relied on. Although the list below is general, non-traditional forms of these assessments will also be used.

Tests

Tests will be worth approximately 50 percent of your grade.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be worth approximately 25 percent of your grade. This includes section and homework quizzes. All quizzes will be announced except homework quizzes.

In-class/homework

In-class activities and homework will be worth 25 percent of your grade depending on level of difficulty and time needed. I will check homework by coming around and checking, by conducting homework quizzes, and by collecting work. We will go over questions daily before checking. This is because I want you to capitalize on the time in class taken to check work.
