Did you know that Lewis Latimer helped to design the light bulb that we use daily?

Lewis Howard Latimer an African American inventor, draughtsman, engineer, author, poet and musician, was born on September 4, 1848 in Boston Massachusetts and died on December 11, 1928 in New York.  He invented the water closet for subway cars, the electric lamp with an inexpensive carbon filament, and was instrumental in working with Graham Bell in designing the telephone.

As a talented draughtsman, Lewis Latimer has also worked with Hiram S. Maxim in designing the machine gun and Thomas Edison with the further development of the light bulb. He has also headed many engineering companies as Chief Engineer.
