What interested me the most about taking this global seminar
was that it was my two dreams in one.
I’ve always wanted to go to Italy for as long as I can remember. I also want to some day design and build my
own aesthetically beautiful structures.
I was mostly in amazement when I heard about this seminar. I couldn’t believe I would possibly get the
chance to do this, and so soon.
Learning about the mathematical design and geometric principles in
classic Roman architecture would be the deciding step in whether I really
wanted to try to incorporate art and math into my designs. Currently I’m a structural engineering
student with a minor in sculpture, and for most of my art projects that I do
for classes, I try to tie together things I learn in my engineering classes
with art. This class in Rome will give
me a new perspective and new understanding with what I can do with pure geometry,
just like the ancient Romans. Plus, I’d
be in Italy! You know how everyone
keeps a mental list of all the cities and countries they want to see? Well Italy has always been my number
one. So that was it, I knew I was going
to take this chance, not worry about the money, and go to Rome!
