Wow, where do I begin to describe such an amazing 5 weeks of my life? Being at UCSD for two quarters, I wasn’t making many close friends as I had hoped. As a transfer student it was difficult to meet new people because you already know who’s close with who and you feel like you’re missing something. Math in Rome became that experience that filled the hole in my life.
During my adventure in Rome, I met 15 amazing students that I would like to call friends for life. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to bring out the best of myself. Seriously! Also, I can’t forget Professor Pasquale. He’s the first college teacher I became close with. His questions promote individual thinking and learning becomes automatic as you listen to his fascinating stories about geometric fractals, the golden ratio, and triangulation.
Food in Rome is amazing as you explore the different parts of the city. The very interesting thing that happened was that the class was scattered in different areas and when we would visit each other, there would always be somewhere new to eat. Our weekdays were packed with class, field trips and excursions. This was a very busy schedule for everyone, but the professor made sure we had plenty of time to explore on our own.
Before my trip, I bought a digital SLR and began to take an interest in photography. It became very exciting because there were two other students that I knew that shared the same hobby as I. Together, we were able to take amazing photographs throughout the entire trip. Looking back at these photographs, it is hard to believe this experience was captured in only a matter of five weeks. Team America! FIGHTING! Bee-Tee-Dub…
