First we start with Caution, there are many mathematical olympiad exams claimed to be the ones which schools and some institutions promote to be the real mathematical olympiads but they are not the ones by which you can reach to the international mathematical Olympiads or called the IMO. The real olympiad starts with the RMO (regional mathematical olympiads) and then to the InMO (Indian mathematical olympiad) conducted by the HBCSE and finally a group of 6 students is sent to the IMO every year. In the year 1959, seven countries Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Soviet Union participated in the first IMO, International Mathematical Olympiad. And in the 50th Olympiad there were no fewer than 104 countries, held in Bremen. Every countries come together except in the year, 1980. Each country is supposed to upto 6 students with a team manager and a Team Leader. Team leader is not with the team since he is involved in the problem selection. The IMO lasts for 2 days, each day four and half hour with 3 problems each day. Each problem is worth 7 points. Fewer than one twelfth of participants are awarded the gold medal, fewer than one fourth are awarded the gold or silver, and fewer than one half are awarded gold, silver or bronze medal |
