Should we buy reference books like Berman, Demidovich, Thomas & Finney, IA Maron, Educative JEE- K.D.Joshi, Bernard & Child ?- That question depends on which book & which year your in now. Generally JEE preparation is done for 2 years. Please don't listen to people who claim to talk about buying book (especially reference books). They are just creating glamour about JEE. JEE is a educative exam and need not be mistaken as a very difficult exam. It seems difficult purely since its conceptual. But one whose concepts are sound will find is fun. So Please dont buy all the mentioned books. There is a separate section on this website for which books to buy which to refer at IIT JEE Books
- And for a baby what is required as food is cerelac and not high protein diet. So when your starting ur prepartion start with the beginners books mentioned in IIT JEE Books section.
- And the most important thing for JEE is preserving and increasing ur confidence not destroying it by refering books which are not of much use for JEE.
Should we buy IIT JEE last year paper solution?- I don't think so. Our booklets do contain enough problems from JEE and equal to JEE level. And by seeing the solutions to JEE problems your not going to get anything. Better use JEE problems to check if your concepts have become sound or not. Don't spoil them by knowing the solutions. Rather work hard to get their solutions by yourself.
Are JEE problems difficult?- JEE problems are not difficult they are conceptual. See the solutions to any JEE problem they are not lengthy just tricky and very crisp and short. So never think JEE problems are difficult they are tricky, conceptual.
What is the mantra of being able to solve a JEE problem?- First step is to observe if there are some hints hidden or visible in the question
- Next use definition approach and not straightforward solving without thinking
- Be conscious of each step that you carry on in solving the problem
What are the first few topics that one needs to prepare at the beginning of the two year course?- First get through topics in Algebra like - Ratio and proportion ( hall and knight), Polynomials - factorization, identities, remainder theorem- applications,
- Next be good with Plane trigonometry - identities, compound angles ( read from SL Loney, ML.Khanna)
- Workout Logarithm which will get you acquainted with idea of inverse of a function.
- Finally refer Thomas and Finney- Calculus and Analytical geometry book for basic conceptual understanding of what is a limit, which will further help in understanding derivatives, how to find derivative (formulae) of different functions, and finally work with definite and indefinite integration topic. I have an introductory notes for this purpose of getting acquainted with Calculus.
- Why calculus is required since its very important in Mechanics, Motion in physics which is the first topic to start.
Are we allowed to use calculators, or should we use calculators to solve problems when we are preparing for JEE?- The answer to this question is an absolute NO.
- Never solve problems while preparing for JEE using calculators.
- JEE problems are very simple in terms of calculations. Numbers cancel out to get you nice numbers, like the subjective form of problems asked this year.
- Mental calculations are a must for JEE as in the exam you wont have the leisure of Calculators and that would add to the burden.
