The Patient: 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse - 4-cly 2.0L DOHC 16-valve NA 2wd auto, ~147,000 miles Presentation: Patient presented with severe transmission buck about once per mile. Patient has history of transmission fluid leakage, oil leakage, fouled plugs, and blue exhaust. Diagnosis: Oil leak lead to occasional low oil causing degradation of piston rings. Cylinders 1 and 4 were experiencing severe blow-by to the point that the spark plugs were choked with oil. Accounts for fouled plugs and blue exhaust. Transmission fluid leakage lead to occasional low transmission fluid, causing torque converter mis-engagement. Spikes in torque from standing start caused cracked and eventually broken gear teeth in transmission. Broken pieces of teeth floating around in transmission accounts for transmission bucking. Broken gear teeth in transmission Prescription:Engine overhaul to replace piston rings, gaskets and seals. Can be performed in-house and shows high probability for full recovery. Recommend to specialist for complete transmission overhaul or replacement. Second Opinion: ELECTRIC CONVERSION!!! |
