HELEN LOUCADO, RN LMT CIIM CLA CLC
 Helen Loucado is a life long native of Ventura, California where she lives with her husband and enjoys a loving relationship with her six grandchildren. She brings not only her professional education and skills, but also her rich life experience as a mother and grandmother, into her mission to provide pregnant women and mothers in the Ventura area respectful perinatal care and empowerment through support, classes, groups and one on one interactions.
Helen has been committed to holistic care as a Registered Nurse since 1980, and expands her knowledge base through continuing education and independent research. She works both in a mainstream eye surgery center and as a Midwife's Assistant supporting families by attending and assisting natural woman-centered births at home and in a free-standing birth center. In 2000, she founded Maternal Instincts in order to provide a resource for women seeking calm, respectful, and professional labor support / doula services, and to offer classes and training in natural childbirth, infant massage, and holistic parenting choices. She also nurtures women during their childbearing year through loving pregnancy and postpartum massage.
Helen has assisted over 150 birthing women in a variety of settings. She trusts in the birth process and honors every woman’s right to have options and make informed decisions about her birth experience. She supports those choices without judgement. In her personal life and in her professional role, she encourages and promotes women’s knowledge and confidence in their bodies, themselves, and their own abilities, throughout the entire childbearing process, from early pregnancy through the postpartum year. She seeks to inform without bias and to teach mothering and nurturing skills founded on peaceful communication. She honors the individuality of each woman.
She is passionate about supporting women throughout the childbearing year and approaches her work with a loving, calm and open heart.
Helen is a Registered Nurse and a professional Midwife's Assistant. She is also an independent Childbirth Educator, a licensed massage therapist certified in Pregnancy Massage, a certified instructor of Infant Massage, a certified Labor Assistant (Doula) as well as a certified Lactation Counselor
