Materials Design Lab @Stevens

The Kim Research Team

Strive to thrive: our missions

Materials Design Lab at Stevens is dedicated to tackling challenges in sustainability by innovating energy storage technology. Our research, in order to achieve this mission, aims to offer design and synthesis principles of energy storage materials based on understanding how structure and chemistry together determine their properties. It is our strength that we carry out highly interdisciplinary research at the intersection of materials science, inorganic chemistry, applied electrochemistry, and chemical engineering. Our research topics include electrochemical materials design, in situ structural characterization, and scalable processing for energy storage applications. We are a fearless team of problem solvers with creative minds and ingenious skills.

The Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science at Stevens Institute of Technology has its research centered on practical problems related to energy, health, and defense. Our faculty, joined by a cohort of graduate students, postdoc scholars, and undergraduate researchers, has performed interdisciplinary and collaborative research, standing at the front line of emerging technology.

Stevens Institute of Technology is a private university established in 1870. The 55-acre campus at Hoboken, New Jersey is located on the Hudson River across from midtown Manhattan within a few minutes from New York City via public transportation. Our superb location offers excellent opportunities for close collaboration with nearby universities, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and major corporate research laboratories.
