Source Code

Specific to this project, the notes to myself page contains everything needed for anyone to study and exactly replicate what I have done, assuming Ubuntu's servers remain.

Click here and here for information on obtaining the source code. If the above link no longer directs one to where information on obtaining said source code is available, I will cease distribution of its related software.

License Information

Click here to view license information.

Most of these licenses are also on any Ubuntu or Debian based system (including Masonux) at /usr/share/common-licenses.

In short: you are free to use Masonux for any purpose, to study it, to modify it, and to share it with whomever you like - provided you pass those same freedoms onto others in accordance with the licenses mentioned above if you choose to distribute it at all.

Patent Information

On the 16th of February, 2010, I joined the Open Invention Network as a licensee. I think I am about the 60th licensee - Google, Linux Mint, Canonical, and a few others are above me on that list. I joined as "Christopher Thomas Mason" and not "Masonux" because Masonux isn't registered as any type of formal organization (non-profit, etc).

In short, it means anyone attempting to be a patent troll with regards to Masonux will also need to contend with a legal team funded by IBM, Phillips, Sony, Red Hat, etc. Patent trolling against one is regarded as patent trolling on all.

It is unfortunate that I live in a nation with such silly software patent laws that a patent pool such as this is needed, but thus is life.

"Masonux" Copyright and Trademark

I grant all trademarks and copyrights that I am free to grant to anyone and everyone to the extent allowed by applicable law, with the exception of the name "Masonux," that I now claim ownership of in whatever fashion I am legally able to do. If you are aware of anything or anyone that owned the name "Masonux" prior to 1 August 2009, please let me know.
