Watauga County Board of Education
It has been a privilege to serve on the Watauga County Board of Education. I am currently seeking a second term.
We are on the threshold of a new era for Watauga County Schools. Our new, state of the art, LEED certified high school is now open. We just completed our roll-out of Pioneer IT, our new digital one-to-one initiative for our high school students and we have new technologies in our elementary and middle school classrooms. Technology allows us to create student and professional learning communities, and reinforce classroom lessons. I am committed to making sure our schools have technology systems that are modern and efficient so that our students get a true 21st century education.
But it takes more than new buildings and the latest technology to educate students. Caring, qualified educators are essential for student success, and we have some of the best in the state. I am committed to providing support and professional development to our teachers and principals.
In today's economy, it is more important than ever for our children to finish high school. I am committed to making sure that students have the fundamentals they need for high school and to ensure that dropping out is not an option. I am further committed to finding new opportunities for students to extend their learning through virtual courses, dual enrollment in college courses, and earning technical degrees while still in high school.
It is not always easy to balance the needs of our schools with other needs in our community, especially in light of our current budgetary constraints, but I will always strive to be fair and respectful to all viewpoints and to work with all our community stakeholders.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and the children of our county as a member of the Watauga County Board of Education and I'd appreciate your vote at early voting starting October 14 or on Election Day, November 2.
