Rick Marshall is a writer, editor and all-purpose blogger currently living in Astoria, NY. As a writer, he has reported on everything from contentious local and state-level politics to pop culture and national media trends. In addition to authoring regular columns on technology and culture for several publications, he has penned various pieces of humor and memoir-style journalism and the occasional book or film critique. His work has been printed (and reprinted) in various alternative newsweeklies, daily newspapers, trade publications and online media. As an editor, he has provided copy and content editing for a variety of publications and online media outlets, as well as various novels and graphic novels. Rick has been recognized as one of the comic book industry's notable journalists and has been called upon to comment on the industry by various online, broadcast, and print media. In 2006, Rick was named "Writer of the Year" by the New York Press Association for his work as a staff writer for Metroland, the alternative newsweekly of New York's Capital Region. His work was also cited by NYPA that year in their awards for coverage of Education (First Place) and for coverage of Business, Financial and Economic News (Third Place). Rick's short-form news writing was also recognized that year with an award by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. A year earlier, his work was cited by NYPA for coverage of the Environment (Third Place), as well as coverage of Health, Health Care and Science (Second Place). Rick is a graduate of the State University of New York in Plattsburgh and holds degrees in Computer Science and Environmental Science.
