Exhibition Opportunities
The Marmion Gallery above the Marmion Tavern in Southsea Town Centre is seeking submissions and proposals for its 2009 programme of exhibitions.
Located on the first floor of a traditional, family-run public house, the gallery is ideally suited to wall-based work (paintings, prints, photography, etc) and is available for small solo or group shows as well as events such as screenings, seminars and previews (for which catering can be arranged).
Artworks or exhibitions should be submitted for consideration by email (screen resolution jpg image files and an artist's statement or links to work and information available to view online). There is no fee to exhibit or deadline for submissions and commission on sales or other earned income is negotiable.

REPLICATE
Prints by Jane Shepherd September - October 2008
Jane is a Portsmouth-based artist and designer and member of Omega Printmakers in Somers Town. This new series of prints are part of a body of work exploring disease, focusing on issues of secrecy and disclosure.
The use of repetitive pattern creates shifting surfaces that both hold and contain, and expose. The motifs also attempt to reclaim a more poetic relationship to illness and the body, in opposition to the distancing that medical language encourages.

The Art Bus
On Saturday 27 September 2008, for one day only, a very special bus explored creativity and culture in Portsmouth and Southsea.
The bus visited some of the City’s best known arts and cultural venues, while taking in some of the events and activities that were organised as part of Open Weekend - the launch of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
The Art Bus Route:
Cultural Olympiad launch events in Guildhall Square

The studios and gallery at Art Space Portsmouth
SPACE at Portsmouth School of Art
Special exhibitions in Southsea Town Centre
Art Bus passengers also had the opportunity to view art in some unusual places... in Southsea Town Centre artworks, interventions and special exhibitions took place in a number of public places including the Marmion Gallery, Debenhams (pictured, right) and St Judes Church.
