Rapid Design Convergence Industrial Structural Engineering
We have rec ently completed a structural modification project for a Houston client, adding 320T's of crew modules to the world's largest barge-mounted crane oil service vessel, while the DB Superior Pride was being final certified in China. The call-up came just days before a major holiday. We received electronic copies of the vessel's lofting plans from the Singapore-based marine architect, along with the client's urgent requirement: 'we need your completed design in six days'. Then their office closed for the holidays.
We immediately researched relevant codes and contacted key officials at the code agencies to define the final design requirements, then contacted the client's fabrication supervision staff over in China, to determine available structural shapes. During the course of several days, we completed engineering design in half the allotted time, then started working on detailed-design fabrication plans, in coordination with the China shipyard, staging steel shapes that would be needed, even as final detail-design plans were being approved.

By the time the client's office opened after the holidays, the project was well into fabrication and erection, and with our strong leadership, achieved immediate ABS certification. With our aggressive delivery schedule, and rapid response, even halfway around the world, we saved our client $1.2M in daily vessel lease fees.
