A little about myself....

I'm Maria João Pires, I live in Portugal and collect antique dolls, mainly french bebes. I started collecting in my early youth and my first doll was the Eden Bebe I’m presenting here. I used to go to antique fairs with my mother searching for dolls, buying every doll I could possibly find…. So, I may say that I got caught by the ‘ doll bug ‘ very early.
Since then, I never stopped loving them and even when I couldn’t buy any, I looked for books and stared at pictures of most beautiful bebes, imagining their former history and the way nineteenth century young girls probably played with them.
Maybe it’s just the wonderful world of childhood that always attracted me, I don’t know.
What I do know is that I build a close relationship with each of them and, every time I gave a doll a name and made her part of a family, it was a French doll. So, what I love the most in them is their look. Being initially made for children to play with, these real treasures captivate us nowadays with their sense of mystery, their wonder and unique beauty.
As time went by, I made research and learned their history.
A very dear friend taught me the ways of french doll collecting. She is the owner of the most exquisite collection of french bebes I have ever seen. A very special tribute to my best friend, Palmira Yamazaki. Have a look at her website!
Now I know that each one is unique and has her own look. I love sharing ideas and, as almost every collector, I’m Always in pursuit of another doll to bring home.
For now, all I want is to share this enthusiasm with doll people all over the world. So, every doll lover is welcome to write and talk. This website is the expression of my passion for dolls. So, let’s talk dolls!
