Pepper, Princess, and Petey The little puppy, Pepper, really liked to zoom! She chased the bluebird, Petey, all around the room. Petey got so tired he flew into his cage, shut the door behind him, and chirped a song to say: "I'm resting. Don't disturb me. I'll nap the rest of day." "You're always sleeping!" Pepper barked with might. "And never want to play. Not morning, noon, or night." Pepper chased Princess, a pretty Persian cat, out onto the porch but she didn't like that. Princess hunched her back and bared her pointy claws hoping this display might give Pepper pause. "Can't you see I'm busy trying to be pretty? Go away, puppy. You make my fur all fluffy." Pepper strolled the roads of the tiny town called Share and wondered to herself if any good was there. She happened upon Clark who sold meals on a cart. "Good morning, Pepper!" Clark said tipping his hat. "I've got a treat for you but it might make you fat!" "A treat to make me fat!" Pepper danced on her hind legs. "Is it a juicy bone? I know I would like that!" "I have a bone for you but something even more. I have catnip for Princess and for Petey seeds galore." Pepper packed the treats into her roomy mouth, ran through the kitchen door, and she began to shout. "I have treats from Clark the cart man! One for you and you and me! Let's sit down together and eat them, all us three." Princess purred a thank-you while Petey flapped his wings chirping, "Bird seed makes me happy, so much I want to sing!" "See how this is better than running all the day?" Princess hummed in a lazy kind of way. Pepper cocked her head curiously to the side, lifted both her ears, and raised her big brown eyes. "Princess, you're so pretty poised upon your throne. Petey, you are peaceful to rock atop your perch. I love you both so much, I desire to be home. Yet, see my curious nature, a treasure has unearthed!" |
