MUSIC heartthrobs Il Divo are used to being cheered on by thousands of adoring fans.
But last night it was one of the group's singers who was doing the cheering - in an audience of 120... in Hexham.
Swiss hunk Urs Buhler took his seat unannounced to watch the world premiere of the dark comedy Pub Quiz, which is set in the North East, and was soon laughing at the lines and enjoying his first taste of anything resembling a pub quiz.
The play, at the Queen's Hall Arts Centre, was written by Carina Rodney, of North Shields, whose sister Tania is Il Divo's hair and make-up artist and also the girlfriend of the Swiss tenor.
The pair spent nine hours travelling yesterday from the Pyrenees to show their support. "I did struggle with the accents at first," Urs, 26, exclusively told the Chronicle.
"But I soon got used to them and I was able to follow the storyline with no problem. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
"I have never been to a pub quiz, I think it is a very British thing. I think Carina is very talented and I'm so happy we came to this."
Urs and Tania were staying in Hexham, and enjoyed a trip to Hexham Abbey before the show.
"What a wonderful place," said Urs. "Beautiful buildings, and we are going to go to Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick with Tania, Carina and their family. I have heard so much about it and it has certainly been worth the travelling to get here."
Pub Quiz is at the Queen's Hall, Hexham, tonight; The Customs House, South Shields, April 10-12; The Maltings, Berwick, April 18; Alnwick Playhouse, April 22; and Northern Stage, Newcastle, April 23-26.
Don't miss next Friday's Chronicle for more from Il Divo's Urs.
