Diversity is our first exhibition. Marches Independent Photography is a small, diverse and informal group of photographers who first started meeting about eighteen months ago to enjoy and learn from each other’s work. To date, we seem to have established only one rule – that ‘There are no rules!’ All the work in this exhibition has been chosen by the person who produced it and not by a panel of judges. Each image is, therefore, truly personal and not necessarily produced to conform to any established criteria. We don’t hold competitions and this, hopefully, encourages experimentation and innovation alongside the development of classic photographic skills. In fact, within reason, anything goes! We meet once a month, usually on a Saturday, and are only now establishing a regular venue. At the time of writing this seems to be Cruckton village hall (about 5 miles south-west of Shrewsbury town centre), though this not yet set in stone. Our meetings usually involve a fair amount of informal chat and showing of work; occasionally individual members will show some of their work to the rest of the group, often in an informal round-the-table manner. We also occasionally invite visiting speakers. The range of skills and approaches represented by our membership is very diverse and conversations can vary from traditional darkroom chemistry and high-end digital manipulation to the price and quality of prints from Boots and how we might shoot 360-degree panoramas with a pinhole camera! We welcome new members, so if you’d like to find out more (there’s more?), please use the "contact us" link to send us a message. |
