What's new

UI Makeover
Map Maker has been given a new skin with a slicker user interface and more real estate for map editing. Some of the features have been reorganized; for example, Directions can now be accessed directly from a top-level link. We have revamped the look and feel of the Map Maker page, reduced clutter and made things easier to find.

Infinite History
The My Profile page provides a complete history of your edits and not just the most recent one. This list can be sorted by time, feature type or status of the edit.

Changes of Interest
The Overview section in the My MapMaker tab shows identifies that you have edited in and shows recent changes in those areas.

Quick fix markers
Some POIs which do not have accurate location are indicated by round markers instead of the usual teardrop markers. These markers can be dragged directly to the correct location, without having to edit it first. Now you can view all POIs in your neighborhood using the browse view and drag all the inaccurate markers to their right location in one easy operation.

Offline support
With Gears support, you never have to wait for tile loads in a place you have visited before as your browser will remember the old tiles. You also can view maps even when you are on the road or offline. Check out the Offline Maps Tile link. Note that offline functionality is limited to viewing maps only; you cannot edit map features while offline. This features requires the Gears plug-in to be installed.

Overlays
You can import and overlay images and KML on the map. Click on the new Overlay button.

Printing Maps

The maps you create and edit can now be printed. Click on the Print link above the map.

More languages
The Map Maker interface is now available
in an additional 24 languages including Japanese, Bulgarian, Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Hungarian

Rich Text Descriptions
Description of a place can now be in rich text. We noticed some of you have been writing interesting, detailed descriptions of places and this helps make this expression richer.

Highway Numbers
Names of numbered national or state highways (e.g. NH 4) are auto-detected and displayed more prominently. You can also edit this tagging and tag a route name as the highway number

New categories
There are many new categories added like Reefs, Eco-tourism, Bird Watching, Nature reserve, Taxi stand, Orphanage, Archaeological site, Tunnel, which you can map using the point tool as well as the polygon tool

Better large polygon display
Large complex polygonal features (like provinces or countries) which used to earlier appear as a slightly confusing bounding rectangle now appear in their actual (but simplified) shape for easier preview when in the read-only mode.

Compare geometry

Geometrical changes made on the feature can be viewed in both the History and Moderation view. The feature history shows details of changes in the geometry of the feature

Re-submit denied features
Your denied features can be re-submitted with a single click!  You just need to hit Try Again link in your My Changes tab.

Getting the user's profile

By just going to the Moderation tab you can easily find the link to the User's profile.

Fixed the following issues in a minor update afterwards -
* Faster directions! As some of you noticed, long directions made the interface slow, this is much faster now.
* Ability to remove neighbourhoods (earlier you could not remove some of your neighborhoods from your list).
* Added a missing icon for the new "Print" link.
* Deleted features were made draggable, this is now fixed.
* One of dropdown buttons in the interface was not working, Fixed!
