When as a user, you save an edit, sometimes the edit will be marked for moderation and will only go live when some other user approves it. Sometimes the moderator will also ask you for some clarification to help him or her moderate this edit correctly.

Map Maker has a unique moderation system. Its goal is to allow edits to flow as freely as practical while making sure data quality remains high. Once you have done a few edits, most of your edits will go live automatically due to our 'auto-moderation' technology. However some will always go for moderation.

There are many reasons why edits are marked for moderation:

• For new users to make sure they have understood Map Maker's intent and to provide good feedback
• For complex edits, having another user look at it can make the edit better
• For sensitive edits, make sure that this meets moderation guidelines
