Want to host a Mapping Party, but having trouble figuring out who to invite? Here are some suggestions to help get you started! - Friends and family. Parties are always better when your friends are there!
- University students. Reaching out to students is a great way to get motivated and tech-savvy participants.
- University professors. This is especially relevant for the geography/cartography/sociology/government departments. If you're lucky, they might even get their whole class to join as well.
- Civil servants. These people can be a wellspring of useful information, especially if they are involved with land planning/transportation or the chamber of commerce.
- Local business owners. Making sure their business is listed correctly on Google Map Maker and that people can find the right directions to their store is a great incentive for these people to join in.
- NGO workers. Most of the time they have a strong interest in helping the local community. Plus, better local maps may help them in their line of work.
Be creative - anyone with local knowledge or an interest in mapping is a good candidate. Don't forget to mention that this project will benefit the local community, as well as people around the world. And remember, the more the merrier! |
