Maplewood Neighborhood Association

What's A Neighborhood Association?
Neighborhood Associations are the basic building block of democracy in the City of Portland. Participants actively work to increase the vibrancy, livability, sustainability, and democracy of their neighborhood. Neighborhood Associations belong to everyone!

About the Maplewood Neighborhood Association
The Maplewood Neighborhood Association can help you keep up to date on issues concerning life here in Maplewood. You can work with your neighbors on issues that directly concern you and let your views be known. Come meet your neighbors, and together we can make a difference!

Our Meetings
The Maplewood Neighborhood Association meets the second Monday of each month. Our Membership meeting begins at 7PM and we usually adjourn between 8 and 8:30PM. We meet in the Community Building behind the West Hills Friends Church, across the street from Maplewood School.

Our Board meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at the same location and time as our Membership meetings.

Please join us for either our Membership or our Board meeting. If you would like to have an item on the agenda please contact our Chair a week prior to the meeting. Otherwise, you can come to the meeting and bring up your ideas or concerns as new business at the end of the meeting.

Where We Are
Maplewood is a small neighborhood, located in the Southwest area of Portland, Oregon, and is surrounded by three other southwest Portland neighborhoods: Hayhurst to the north, Multnomah to the east, and Ashcreek directly south. The neighborhood boundaries are defined by SW Vermont Street, SW 45th Avenue, and SW Multnomah Boulevard. The western boundary of Maplewood is the Washington County line. Maplewood's topography is hilly with two tributaries of Fanno Creek: Vermont Creek and Woods Creek. Vermont Creek runs east to west in the northern portion of the neighborhood and Woods Creek runs east to west in the southwestern portion of the neighborhood.

The land bordered by SW Multnomah Blvd., SW Canby, SW 51st, and SW Custer is constrained by the steep slopes, flooded areas, and wetlands of Woods Creek. In the creek corridors there are numerous underground springs. There are no through streets which pass over the creek drainages so there are few north to south connections from most of Maplewood's streets to Multnomah Blvd. Likewise, there are only two ways to travel east to west and exit the neighborhood: Vermont Street and Maplewood Road.
