Manhattan East School for Arts and Academics (ME) is a challenging and
rigorous arts-infused academic program that meets the needs of highly
motivated, gifted and talent students. ME’s students complete courses
in Regents Earth Science, Integrated Algebra 1 Regents, American
History and Government Regents and Spanish Proficiency 1 before
entering high school. Students applying to ME should have scored a
minimum of 4/3 or 3/4 on their fourth grade English and Math exams and
should also have a demonstrated interest in the visual or performing
arts. ME is a Citywide unzoned school. Students come from each of the
City’s five boroughs -- Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and
Staten Island.
The Admissions Process:
1. Schedule Parent Tour The
admission’s process begins with a tour of Manhattan East (ME) for
parents. Parents will meet with Principal Liliana Sarro and Parent
Coordinator Angie Ortiz, and will have opportunities to observe several
classes in action, as well as facilities such as the music room, art
room, and computer lab. To schedule a tour, please call the ME office
at 212-860-6047.
2. Application Fill out the
application given to parents during the tour and send it directly to
the ME Admissions Coordinator. (A parent and/or guardian must first
attend a tour in order to submit an application on behalf of his/her
chid. Any application received without a record of parent(s) and/or
guardians having attended a tour or tours will not be processed.)
3. Teacher Evaluation Submit
a ME "Confidential Feeder School Evaluation" form to your child’s
current teacher, who will complete it and forward it directly to ME.
4. Parent Authorization Submit a ME "Parent Authorization" form to your child’s current teacher.
5. Schedule Student Visit Each
applicant is invited to spend a day at ME, where s/he will be paired
with a ME "buddy," with whom s/he will attend classes and lunch. On
that day, the applicant will also take a writing and math assessment,
and will be interviewed by a faculty member. The student visit is an
important part of the application process, as it gives your child a
clear idea of what student life is like at ME, and gives our faculty an
opportunity to see how well your child might do as a member of our
community. Your child will be given a written verification of his/her
visit, which you may submit to your child’s school. How to schedule an interview and school tour
