MANDATORY GEAR ADVENTURE RACE
Registration should be open by November 15, 2009.
WHAT: Mandatory Gear Adventure Race is a fifteen hour AR with mountain biking, trekking, and orienteering. The race will cover approximately70 miles if completed, but there is a 15 hour time limit. This is the initial race of the 2010 Trailblazers Points Series where competitors compete in a season-long series trying to become the 2010 Trailblazer Champions. This race is also part of the Checkpoint Zero Tracker series, which ultimately ends with a national championship race in November 2010.
WHERE: Conway, SC- The Google map link above is to the start location. It is the same as the start/finish for the 2009 race. The address is 3290 Highway 319 Conway, SC. However, the location is not the main campus, but slightly closer to Main Street, on the opposite side of Highway 319. I will try to have it flagged on the map. However, they are close enough to see each other, so if you get that close, you'll easily find me.
WHEN: Saturday, January 30, 2010 start time to be announced. It will be a laid back, streamlined procedure, and check-in will be held from 6-9p.m. on 1/29/10. Check-in is discouraged for race day, as we need all the daylight we can get.
MANDATORY GEAR: See attached list, which is subject to change. I will notify you of any edits.
There will be an indoor facility for "gym style" camping. It will be heated, have restrooms, water, a kitchen, and other amenities. Just bring a pad or air mattress and sleeping bag and be right on scene for the start/finish. There is a stove if anyone wants to cook anything for their dinner or breakfast.
This is a TRAILBLAZERS "members only" race. So, if you are not a member, it is included in your registration. If you are a member, you get the discount reflected on the registration form. If you want to win maximum points, and the race, it will be a very difficult challenge. The points are spread enough that this will be a challenge to collect them all and finish in the 10 hour limit.
But, if you are a first time racer, trying to check out AR, this will be the perfect event for you as well. There will be a mandatory point on each of the legs, and if you want to punch those and finish, you'll have time to spare, but still a great taste of the sport. If you want to learn some time management, then you can decide which points you want to attempt, while trying to finish in a comfortable manner.
