Holidays

posted Dec 22, 2009 5:20 AM by Malcolm Gillis

I like the holidays.  I really do.  As the time ticks away and gets closer to the big events like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, the stress level goes up.  The holidays are great when you are a kid.  All you have to do is wait, and be rewarded with food and gifts, no matter how good or bad you were that year.  You always got something from someone, and you felt so good.  As you get older, you wait, spend, plan, negotiate, contemplate, forget, appease, worry, do, and in the end you hope.  Can't it be simple?  Can't we do what people say is the real reason for the season, be thankful and love?  It sounds simple, but far from it.  All our lives we have become use to all the frills and thrills of the holidays, and without them we feel as if we have failed.  "I forgot to get that person a gift!" or "Why should I get them something, what have they done for me?" or "What about me?"  The holidays should not be treated as just another day, but just getting together, being happy, laugh, tell stories, and create memories.  All the other stuff that we do just becomes stressful and takes away of what I believe the holidays should be.  I say this stuff, yet I still go out and do all the shopping and running around.  It would take everyone to stop, take a step back, and say "Is all this necessary?"

Airport Security

posted Dec 10, 2009 12:28 PM by Lydia Gillis

Working at the airport is very stressful. Add on top of that inconsiderate passengers and it's no wonder that I've submitted my two weeks notice yesterday. I would have to say that the best passengers I've seen have been international passengers and military personel. These are the only types of people that give respect, hardly ever complain about what we do, and thank us for our job. American citizens are the worse! They have this self-rightous attitude about security and feel that because they are US citizens that they should be exempt from screening. People forget that there are American terrorists as well as foreign. We can no longer blindly trust people, which is sad but reality.
This holiday season instead of griping and moaning about airport security, take a moment to remeber why we are there and please give us some respect. We are, afterall, trying to make sure your flight makes it safely to it's destination with every passenger alive. Is that too much to ask? I think not.

Tipping

Tipping

People need to learn how to tip!  That is what this blog is about, tipping.  I am not talking about giving a verbal tip, "Don't eat yellow snow." I am talking about going out to a restaurant, ordering food, being waited on, and tipping your server when you leave.  It is really simple folks, 15% to 20% on your total bill before you use your coupon, gift certificate, voucher, or whatever you use to pay your bill.  And 15% is to be considered if and only when you get HORRIBLE service and HORRIBLE food.   Most of the time that happens, it isn't your servers fault.  You have cooks, hosts, bartenders, dishwashers, and buss personnel who all play a part in your experience at a restaurant.  If you order a dish and it was prepared correctly, but then you later realize you don't like escargot, don't punish your server with a bad tip.  20% may seem as a shocker to some of you out there, but most servers don't even make $3.00 an hour.  They rely on your tips. And to say that they shouldn't do the job they are doing is not your call.  Those people who are waiting on you may do it as a second job, or going to school.  Who enjoys going to work and not make any money?  NOBODY!!!  Waiting tables can be a good job.  It even may be something they enjoy doing because they get to meet people and work with food.  And somebody has to be a server or there would only be buffets everywhere you went or fast food.  I know that would be the best for some people who are perfectly content with those options, and if you are and don't like to tip, then keep going to the buffet or fast foods and stay away from the real restaurants that serve good food and serve it to you.  I wait tables, and I always take my jobs seriously.  When I wait on you at a restaurant, I am going to give you 100% all the time.  Don't be a cheap skate and leave $10 on a $100 dollar dinner.  It makes you look bad, it isn't fair to the server, and it is just wrong.  So please tip accordingly the next time you go out to eat.  Thanks!!!

Hey! This site is coolio! This is Lydia, Malcolm's little sis. The weather in NJ is icy and white like a slushy winter wonderland. I'm at the doc's office for a follow-up on my ear infection. The pain has gone but I'm still a bit congested. Hopefully the doc will fix that. ^_^ I'm also about to leave for the Navy and I'm starting to get nervous. 30 or so days away from my ship date. I hope I enjoy it. O_O Have a great day everyone!!!! ~Lydia

Tipping is hella important, yo! Whenever me and the bf go out we always tip a minimu of 20%. oftentimes we round up which makes the tip more than 20%! we aren't made of money but we understand that servers don't get a decent hourly wage. So I say tip well if it's deserving!
