This site was created by Mr. Thomas Wierzbowski and it provides a framework for teaching students how to make sense of unfamiliar text.
The process of making sense of text begins with the text itself. Good readers will question elements of the text such as the title, and author background before they even read the text itself. Good readers also notice and can discus key literary elements of the text while reading. This site will help students learn what questions to ask when reading a text and what important literary elements which might be illustrated in the text are.
Many of the examples and explanations are taken from Discovering Voice: Voice Lessons for Middle and High School Nancy Dean Maupin House, 2006
