Dear Families,

Welcome to our website!  Over the next three weeks we will working on our new literacy unit, Making a Difference in our Environment.  Students will be engaged in peer literature circles, as well as listening and discussing daily read-alouds related to our theme in class.  As a class we will examine how we can make a difference in our environment, through the use of children's literature.  Throughout the unit, we will be focusing on a variety of literacy strategies which students can use when reading independently to increase their comprehension of the stories they read.

We will be examining three big questions throughout the unit: Who needs the environment?  What does it mean to care for the environment?  How can we care for the environment?

The focus for this unit will be on reading books and examining our three big questions.  I have also provided a list of websites and books that you and your student may want to explore at home.  If you find any new books or websites, please pass them along, and I will add them to our list for everyone to enjoy!

I will update this website each week with information about what we have been study, along with the books we have read in class for the week.  Please feel free to ask your student about the books we have read in class.  Students are often very excited to share what they have been reading and may enjoy reading the book with you.

Along with updating the website weekly, you will also be receiving a short weekly update in the class newsletter (sent via email), about what we have been learning in class.  If you would prefer to recieve the newsletter via paper, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Please feel free to contact me via phone, email, or a note with your student if you have any questions regarding this unit, would like more resources, or would like to help out.
