The downtown sites are within walking distance of free parking.

Lockport was established in 1836 with plans to start construction of the Illinois & Michigan Canal.  The completion of the canal in 1848 made shipping possible from Chicago to the Mississippi River. Limestone quarries, grain elevators and Bessemer Steel Companies shipped products to the east and west from Lockport.  Lock One of the I & M Canal and the headquarters of the original Canal Commissioners can be seen here today.

Lockport is still a business center and transporation hub with the Metra train station, Pace Bus routes, route I-355 linking I-80 and I-55, the Des Plaines River, and the Chicago Ship Cana.  Lockport is located within the Chicago Metropolitan area and is just a 45 minute drive to downtown Chicago.

from I-80 exit onto I-355 north, take the Lockport exit at 159th Street go west 2 miles to State Street, the center of the Historic District
from I-55 exit onto I-355 south, take the Lockport exit at 159th Street go west 2 miles to State Street, the center of the Historic District
