As part of the programme, all students are required to submit a dissertation at the end of the course. The objective is to develop and test students' ability to conceptualise and critically evaluate issues and debates in social sciences. The dissertation is structured to enable students to carry out an independent investigation into any topic of their choice. This component of the programme has been assigned a 12 credits weightage, signifying its importance as a tool to enhance the students' research and analytical capabilities. An important component of the dissertation is the field-based research, which involves data collection from primary sources. The entire process equips them well for developmental interventions and actions, based on ground realities.
Some of the themes in dissertation topics of students this year are policy planning, governance, health, environment, gender, issues of displacement, child rights, education, labour studies, women’s empowerment, law, urban planning and agrarian distress.
