Maho Bay Farm
We are a full service mare care, breeding, foaling, and year round boarding facility. Maho Bay Farm is conveniently located in Chiefland, FL. which just 30 minutes West of the Ocala area. The soil here is rich in limestone, calcium and phosphorous, which is vital to the development of young horses. We are a smaller, private farm and dedicate ourselves to quality individual care of your valuable horses.
There are video surveillance monitors in the foaling stalls, Foal Alert, and 24/7 personally supervised foal watch, making sure each foaling is attended to and your mare and newborn receive the best care pre and post foaling. Stalls are sanitized, mares are cleaned thoroughly pre & post foaling and foals are bottle fed their first ounces of vital colostrum before they even stand. Proper care of the umbilical cord and repeated foal temps are part of the routine care. IGG tests and overall foal checks are done on each foal and the mare is also examined. The veterinarian we use and highly recommend is Dr. Linkous who specializes in equine reproduction. Should any complications ever arise we are centrally located between the equine hospitals of Ocala and the UF Equine Veterinary Hospital.
For lay up care we have proper knowledge of bandaging, wrapping, and poulticing of legs and wound treatment, and can accomodate post surgical instructions. From hand walking to the eurociser, from a round pen to a small paddock, we can transition your horse safely to a complete recovery.
For sales prep our staff has a show horse background and knows how to make your horse look like it should be in the winners circle every time. Proper coat conditioning is just as important as the horses physical fitness and we know how to achieve that perfect combination.
Our facility includes 3 & 4 board fencing, large group and individual paddocks, auto waterers, barn with a/c tack/feed room, wash rack (includes hot water), roundpen and, eurociser. We offer private transportation of mares (in our safe, "Warmblood height" gooseneck trailer, with box stalls) to any central Florida Stallion Barn of your choice. We can also arrange for commercial transportation if needed. Maho Bay Farm also offers training on a one on one basis.
