my name is arón j-o, and this is my homepage. i am a visual artist and amateur historian. this site is dedicated to the late ricardo flores magón (1874-1922). WHAT'S NEW??? i graduated in May from the School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and moved to urbana, IL. i would love to hear your feedback of my thesis, an illustrated book of Ricardo Flores Magón in exile, available at www.magonista.net. My email is ajortiz@umich.edu. over the past two summers, i went on an extensive trip retracing the steps of ricardo flores magón and other magonistas through the US and Mexico. follow my historical recreation of magón's journey through laredo and san antonio, el paso/ciudad juárez, los angeles, and more sites to come. these pages are field notes, and should not be considered finalized documents. i also use this site to post my thoughts on social, political, and aesthetic issues. the following essays are always partial and represent my feelings at a specific time rather than what i always think. my essay about an art of political abstraction is an attempt to bridge radical politics with abstract art; i don't know how successful i was in doing that. living in michigan during the ongoing economic crisis, i wrote an essay on diego rivera's detroit industry murals, and what i read into them about our time. finally, check out my photo essay on the graffiti of chiapas. |
