Economy

The 3.5T budget.  Oh yeah!  Just the right size in the time of a recession.

Here's a thought, fire also the head of UAW.  Playing favorites?  Just not a popular move?  If you want to fire someone responsible why not fire all that have contributed to this financial mess?  An article about firing the head of the UAW.

This is a link to an article by one of the AIG executives that has been demonized by media and government.  I think it is a bold fresh piece written by a genuine man.  I could be wrong I don't know him. However it illustrates a unheard side in this AIG debacle.

Oh the feigned outrage...  Government knew about the bonuses beforehand!  In fact there was a provision in the stimulus protecting bonuses for those mean old executives.  Two top recipients of AIG campaign contributions...Chris Dodd and President Obama.

The CEO of AIG defends himself.

And the outrage, oh the outrage of the administration.
Economic principles and the government spending, why this flies in the face of what has really worked, and how capitalism is still being blamed.

George F. Will again, on the fire hose stimulus.

Opinion- George F. Will fires off on the "runaway stimulus."  One of the best article written concerning the stimulus and the President's strategy for getting it signed.

How economist from all over the country feel about the stimulus.
News article about the list economist who oppose Obama's stimulus plan.

Great article on recession, depression stimulus and economic policy.

Two great opinion articles on the economy and doling out of the 'stimulus.'  When we call them opinion articles it does not mean that there isn't fact in there, or sound theory.

Stimulus package most likely will not provide stimulus.  This is not news to many, but now the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released a report stating the same.  Here are some links to articles about the report and even better, the bottom three links of the five listed below are to the actual CBO reports for the House and Senate's bills.  As well as a link to the CBO home page.  The primary purpose here is to inform and provide information with more than news articles but with primary reports and research.

"This is a good article about how calling the "stimulus package" a "stimulus package" is a bunch of bull.  They are not spending money in a way that is designed to immediately kick start the economy.  They know that they have this window to implement their agenda where people will accept them spending a trillion dollars in the name of stimulating the economy." I liked this summarization so I used it, the words are not mine, but I agree.

Here it is!  Links to the stimulus bill that is going in to the house today, it may be law by next week.  Hurray for spending money that doesn't even exist!  Talking with my wife the other day about our budget we saw that we might come up short this month. Thankfully we have some cushion, and we were able to make up the $12 deficit.  When I ask her if we can spend money on something, she says, "Sure, what part of the budget is it coming out of?" We then look, think about it and decided that maybe we shouldn't take that money out of groceries, rent or any other essential.  In other words, the money doesn't exist, so we can't spend it.  It makes me wonder what the Government is doing, where does this money come from? I mean we already have a national debt...any ideas?  Hopefully the rich! That will teach them to make money, and all the rest of us as well!  How much can we owe? I'm sure other countries that do the lending don't mind, they love it when we owe them.  A second option would be the printing machines, those are awesome, they are like money making machines!  Well, here is the multi-billion, maybe trillion dollar stimulus package.  Fell free to take a peak at the great new programs we are about to buy.

And a great article in the WSJ, A 40-yr Wish List
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123310466514522309.html

House Republicans push alternate/counter stimulus package, hours before the current bill is put to the vote.

Another op-ed column on the economy.  Thought I'd point an opposing point of view.  Not only do I not agree, I can see some major wholes in his argument that I'm sure he is aware of, but has chosen not to address.

George F. Will on the economic plans of the new administration.  You may need to be a subscriber of the Washington Post to read this op-ed column.
