My Chapter One SQ3R Notes:

My Chapter 1 Notes

Students need to learn how to take good notes. This is one that I have found effective and reliable. I will require this format when turning in notes. As far as your in-class notes, you can use whichever method you prefer.

SQ3R stands for:

    • Survey/Scan
    • Question
    • Read
    • Record
    • Review

What does that mean???

  • Survey/Scan over the chapter, look over it, write an outline of the chapter, look at all the pictures, figure out the basic idea that this chapter is trying to communicate.
  • Question - Ask questions about the chapter and about the topics in the chapter.Reading works so much better when YOU have determined YOUR purpose for reading. (Even if your purpose is just to get through it!)
  • Read - Yes, you eventually actually have to READ the chapter.
  • Record - Take notes! Add to your outline. Fill in some of the blanks. Giver your teacher proof that you read AND that you learned.
  • Review - What were the most important topics? Write a brief summary of the chapter. Re-read your notes. Highlight what you thought was the most important.
