How to do the CCOT

"The more things change, the more they stay the same."

History can be a laundry list of dates, events and wars. There have been many changes that have affected societies throughout history. Leaders change. Technologies change. There are new inventions, new fashions, and new politicians.

But what stays the same? Many cultures and languages have survived with very little difference. Geographical pressures are often unchanging in certain areas. Religions, cultures and languages have often stayed pretty similar in many areas or change very slowly. Use the acronym TAREA (Spanish for homework or assignment) to help you remember the requirements for the CCOT.

A good CCOT essay must have:

  • Thesis* - well-written and comprehensive
  • Addresses all parts of the question
  • Relevent context in time period
  • Evidence that supports your thesis
  • Analysis of CCOT
  • 3x3, 3 key changes, 3 key continuities

*This is REALLY important!!!
