Dying Hair

Some people say that dying hair is bad for your hair and it shouldn’t be done. Personally, I think it’s one of my favorite pastimes. I used to sit on my mom’s bathroom stool and try to look like the models in the magazine. Then I would take the tall, red bottle off the shelf. I could barely reach it with my pre-teen hands, and the growth spurt hadn’t kicked in yet. I would pour it into my tinier hands and, well the rest was experimentation.

The first step to dying hair is to put gloves on. “Wear plastic gloves to protect your hands. Avoid rubber gloves, as they will snag on your hair.” [1] The gloves are very important, not only for sanitary reasons, but they will protect your hands from getting died along with your hair. Plastic gloves are good for disposal, if they are one time use. They make things a lot less messy and the dye could have unsafe chemicals in it. So just wear gloves to be on the safe and cleanlier side.

Next you would prepare the dye to put on your hair. It is important it is mixed with other elements to make it less harsh on the hair itself. E How says, “Pour the liquid dye in the developer and shake it well for at least 15-20 seconds.”[2] This is one of the most important steps to dying hair. The dye is a callous element to begin with, and it is important it is softened so that the human scalp can endure it. In addition, hair dye is hard to pick because some, “dyes have a high chemical composition and may stress and dry out your hair.” [3] It is important to pick a hair dye that has some sort of conditioner that helps the hair adjust to a new chemical being introduced to it.

After you add the developer into the hair dye, it is now time for the application. You must make sure you hair is clean and without tangles. HPP hair products says, “Make sure those split ends have been trimmed and your hair is clean. Your hair should also be damp when applying the hair dye.” [4]  This can cause you conclusion of the hair dying to be insufficient and not expected. The dying process is easy, but it has to be followed down to an art.

Lastly, you have to put your hair up and wait for the dye to settle. A frequently asked question of a how-to website says, “The length of time hair dye will last is based on several factors, including the condition of your hair, the color of your hair and your hair care products.” [5] This is very important to know because there is such a thing as over dying. It is basically like setting your hair on fire. It ruins and makes your hair like straw. Monitor your hair for maximum results.

In the end, it is good to have a little change here and there with style. But following these steps will help in achieving the maximum results to dying your hair. It is important to follow the directions and to perform an allergy test as bonuses.
