WELCOME TO MADDENDUFF

Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope you like what you see here.  We are Jim and Cassie Malloy and we have both lived in the company of dogs since childhood. As kids, most of our pets were of the “generic” variety, but some purebred dogs made their way into our hearts. Cassie raised a couple of German Shepherds, and Jim grew up with a Daschund. Shortly after our marriage in 1989 we brought home our first AKC registered dog, and the "Maddenduff" kennel name was established in 1997 with the advent of our first litter. We have been owned by several breeds over the last 20 + years including a couple of Boxers and an American Staffordshire Terrier, however our main focus has been the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  Recently we have added a Boston Terrier to the mix. Each breed holds a special place in our hearts, and although each is loved and respected for its own unique qualities and character, you might see a theme developing here...We love our “bullies!”

Our lives have pretty much "gone to the dogs" so they say. We show our dogs in conformation and have had success in the obedience ring. Cassie and Tegan are currently training for their newest adventure, agility. Cassie has taught obedience classes in the past and we have tried some other fun stuff, including rally, weight pull and fly ball. We have been members of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Puget Sound since its inception and have served on its Board since the Club was formed. Cassie has also served on the Board of Directors of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America (National Club) and the All Terrier Club of Western Washington. Jim was the rescue coordinator for the SBTCPS for many years, and Cassie is a past breed rep for Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. We recently joined the Boston Terrier Club of Western Washington and plan to become more involved there as time allows.

After being involved in the sport of purebred dogs for eight years, we finally bred our first litter in 1997. It took us a long time to find a bitch that had all the qualities we felt were vital to a good brood bitch...Superior temperament, healthy, with good breed type. Our first two supposedly “breeding quality” bitches (one Boxer, one Am Staff) did not live up to our high expectations and were spayed before they could add to the gene pool.

WE FEEL THAT BRINGING A LITTER INTO THIS WORLD IS A HUGE RESPONSIBILITY AND WE TAKE IT VERY SERIOUSLY.  From the very beginning, our breeding philosophy has been this:
  • We breed only to further our own goals in trying to produce excellence in the breed.
  • We strive to produce the most structurally correct, physically sound and mentally stable dog we can.
  • We are ultimately responsible for every puppy we bring into the world.
When planning a breeding, health and temperament are our main concerns. To help meet our goals to produce only healthy puppies, all breeding stock undergoes thorough, breed appropriate health screenings for hip displaysia and/or luxating patellas (OFA), eyes (CERF), hearing (BAER) and heart health.

Our puppies are placed in very select homes. All puppy buyers are required to sign a detailed contract, which contains language to protect you as the buyer, we as the breeder, and most importantly, the dog. Puppies showing potential to better the breed are sold on a co-ownership. Puppies that may not be of sufficient quality for breeding are sold outright, but with a “limited” AKC registration and with a requirement that they be spayed/neutered. Perhaps most importantly, we have become friends with many of our past puppy buyers, and consider them to be part of our extended family.

WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE WHO IS LOOKING TO BRING A DOG INTO THEIR HOME TO TAKE AS MUCH CARE AND INTEREST IN FINDING A GOOD PUPPY AS WE DO IN BRINGING IT INTO THE WORLD.  Remember, by definition, anyone mating two dogs together is a "breeder," but that does not mean they are a good one. Please do not purchase your new family member from a pet store, commercial breeder, or backyard breeder.  A dog is not a commodity to be produced and sold like a TV or a pair of socks, only to be thrown out when its owner is tired of it.  To learn more about finding a responsible breeder, please go to: http://www.bostonterrierclubofamerica.org/about-boston-terriers/find-boston-terrier-breeder.htm

Sadly, after almost 20 years the realities of owning a dog that most people consider to be a “pit bull” has become too depressing. The final straw was when they tried to ban the breed in our own home town. Although we were able to get the council to enact a generic dangerous dog law, it just hit too close to home. We are no longer breeding Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but remain active in the local SBT community. We are always happy to discuss the breed with prospective Stafford owners and will help you find a responsible breeder.

Our focus is now on the Boston Terrier breed. Although we are new to this breed, we have an excellent mentor to help us in our journey. We will possibly be having a litter in the second half of 2010 or early 2011. If you want a quality Boston Terrier, are committed providing a loving, lifelong home, and are willing to wait a while, please contact us. If you have questions about us or our dogs, or just want to talk about our favorite subject, send us an email or give us a call.
