The internet is a wonderful resource full of a vast amount of information. However, finding useful websites among the millions of sites in cyberspace is sometimes as hard as looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. It is especially difficult to identify a helpful website when one is just beginning to master a particular subject. Finding a great French website that can help students in grades 6-8 can be quite a challenge. I have provided below a list of some of the websites that I have found to be useful to students learning French, from beginners to high school students. I will be updating these links when I find any new sites that may be of interest and I welcome any suggestions from parents and students.
Parents/guardians should supervise their child when he/she is accessing the internet to ensure safe and responsible surfing.
BBC Primary French - This is a fun website, actually part of the BBC TV/Radio/News company in the UK, which provides great revision of basic French and games to test your knowledge. Make sure your volume is turned up, so you can hear authentic French and improve your pronunciation. Areas covered - numbers 0-21, age, name, spelling. (Check out the en France section on this same BBC webpage to hear real French speakers talk about these same areas)
BBC Primary French 2 - Basic French phrase practice, as above, but more advanced. You can also print off worksheets. Areas covered - numbers 22-60, pets, colours, time, weather, likes...
Quia - This website offers students the opportunity to practise vocabulary or grammar through simple games like Battleships, Wordsearches and Flash Card Memory games. It can be a little hit and miss - search for games relevant to your needs and that you enjoy. Let me know which ones you like! (By the way, you can practise your skills in other subject areas if you click on the relevant links on the Quia homepage)
