During the school year, I run a number of academic and non-academic clubs/activities that students are able to attend...
![]() Chess Club is held once a week during lunchtime. It is usually a well-attended club during the fall and winter months. The day is open to change depending on student commitments and my supervision schedule. It is open to all students in grades 6-8.
![]() Creative Writing Club
Creative Writing Club takes place in February and March. The purpose of the club is to provide students with an opportunity to write a short story for entry in a national competition. The winning entries will be published in a young person's collection of short stories. We have enjoyed success in this competition in recent years. Students are able to have access to computers during lunchtimes while the club is running. I am available for advice, consultation and assistance on a daily basis. The Creative Writing Club is open to all students in grades 5-8.
Cricket Club
The Bennetto Cricket Club gets up and running in the warm weather - usually mid-May through until the end of the academic year in June. It is an extremely popular club that introduces the world sport of cricket to the students of Bennetto. Many of our past members have brought their own knowledge of the game to meetings, helping beginners learn the art of 'bowling a googly' or 'hitting someone for six' - you may well have heard us yelling "Howzat!" in past summers as another wicket fell. The Cricket Club is open to all students in grades 6-8 and is co-educational.
Debating Society
The Bennetto Debating Society is in its first year in 2009. A very popular and well-attended club, the Bennetto Debating Society provides students with the opportunity to express their opinions and listen to the opinions of others in a formal and respectful manner. A range of topics is discussed and debated and all students have the chance to participate in the debates. Teams research their 'side' of the motion/argument and present their views in support or against the motion. Their performances are judged by teachers and watched by their peers in the club. In this setting, students can develop their self-confidence, their public-speaking skills, and their abilities to discuss and debate logically a contentious issue with maturity and without resorting to simple 'arguing'. The Debating Society is open to all students in grades 7 and 8.
![]() French Homework Club
French Homework Club does not have a specific day on which it runs - students can attend any day! Any student requiring help, advice or assistance with any aspect of the French course can arrange a time to see me or just pop by my room. Whether it be help with a tricky verb or a pre-test in preparation for an oral presentation, the conscientious student can really benefit from attending French Homework Club. All students in grades6-8 can attend. |
