Getting Cast

The production manager sends the super requirements for a show to the super captain for casting. Production sometimes suggests certain supers for one or more of the parts based on past experience with those supers. Supers are often cast based on costume requirements, their availability to make rehearsals and performances, or having desired experience or skills, i.e. dance training, ability to take musical cues, or physical agility.

There is a contact form online ("Volunteer" in menu at left) that is updated every season. Submit your information and indicate on the form which shows you are interested in doing. All information is kept confidential and is used solely by the production department.

When you are contacted about a part you will be given all the information available about the role. This can change at any time and frequently does! Please be aware that you may be playing a very different part from what you anticipated and be prepared to accept (graciously) whatever you are asked to do.

Respond as quickly as possible if you want a role. If you need time to check a schedule or see about getting time off let the super captain know and every attempt will be made to 'save a spot' for you.

It's critical that you carefully review the schedule for conflicts before committing. Known conflicts can be submitted to the production manager for approval. The earlier in the rehearsal period a conflict occurs the easier it is to accommodate; dress rehearsal conflicts are rarely approved and performance conflicts cannot be excused.

Staying Cast - Getting Cast a Second Time

The critical quality for being a successful super is reliability. You must be on time for every rehearsal and every performance. In the event of an emergency you must contact stage management as soon as possible. Lateness or absenteeism is not tolerated.

The successful super also has a positive attitude, takes direction without complaint, and accepts whatever staging, costume, wig, or make-up they are given - cheerfully! Being 'high maintenance' or having a negative attitude will seriously shorten your super career. Don't be a diva.
