Bostock & Dunlap/Dunlop families American website

posted ‎‎22 Sep 2009 14:40‎‎ by Lynda's Lot   [ updated ‎‎22 Sep 2009 14:47‎‎ ]

Excerpts from an email from Wanda Dunlap:

I would like to donate my “searchable” family heritage website as a “link” to your website.

I have been researching Charles Bostock born 1569  for over 15 years.  Prior to my research, NOTHING could be found on the internet about him or his family.

The Bostock family of Cheshire and Surrey descend from a long light of KNIGHTS beginning with the “Norman Conquest” of England.

I posted my website on the internet in May 2008 and have already had over 6000 hits, so there appears to be a LOT of interest.  As I uncover more interesting “provable” sources and information about the family, I continue to update my website weekly.

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeoithb/Bostock.html

Since May I have been contacted by members of the Bostock family all over the world.  These contacts have enabled me to add to my website.

I would like to share this information with others, free of charge of course!

Pre-1837 Research Advice

posted ‎‎2 Sep 2009 15:13‎‎ by Lynda's Lot   [ updated ‎‎2 Sep 2009 15:20‎‎ ]

Having exhausted English birth, marriage & death certificates from 1837 onwards and the available 1841-1901 census records, there comes a time when you need to go back further and it gets more difficult to verify names that may belong to your trees.

After reading some messages on a genealogy mailing list regarding pre-1700 research, I've taken excerpts and created the Pre-1837 Research Advice page.  As more hints, links or tips come to light, I will add them.

New "Lynda's Links" pages

posted ‎‎22 Jul 2009 02:15‎‎ by Lynda's Lot

I was previously using Yahoo Groups for this function but my computer had some compatibility issues, so I've re-done the links on a Google site.  This means that anyone now can access the links and message board and doesn't need to join up as a member first.  Messages can still be sent and I will manually publish them as I did in the group.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

What's new? function

posted ‎‎22 Jul 2009 02:08‎‎ by Lynda's Lot   [ updated ‎‎22 Jul 2009 02:14‎‎ ]

I've just worked out how to do announcements properly (!) and have updated the What's new? page.  I've cut and pasted all the old announcements, therefore they all appear as having been added today, even though some are several months old.  With announcements hereonin, the date it states they were inserted will be correct.

Our ancestors in census records - A work in progress

posted ‎‎22 Jul 2009 01:56‎‎ by Lynda's Lot

Though I've made a list of the ancestors I've found in the censuses and have created a spreadsheet, I've decided also to put the census information on the family pages where it can be seen at a glance.

New Zealand Genealogy Databases website

posted ‎‎22 Jul 2009 01:54‎‎ by Lynda's Lot

I've recently joined forces so to speak with NZ Genealogy Databases (NZGDB) and will soon be managing their "Useful Web Sites" facility.  Working on a site that maybe isn't as easy-peasy (like the wonderful Google Sites) is going to be a learning curve for me.  I still intend running Lynda's Links with its growing list of links.

Q & A pages for your elders

posted ‎‎22 Jul 2009 01:51‎‎ by Lynda's Lot

I realised a while ago there was much I've been told by my parents that I will likely forget; little things.  So I came up with these pages of questions for them to fill in.  I wish I'd thought of it when my grandparents were still with us.  Please feel free to use the Q & A sheets for your own people.

As part of his research for his recently published book "Before ANZAC Beyond Armistice", Keith Scott has extensive material on file of 440 soldiers from the Maniototo, Ida & Manuherkia Valleys.  He is happy to assist anyone looking for information.  He can be contacted by email.
