John McPIKE
b. 1794 IRE - d. 1874 NZ

Professional Irish soldier.  War Office records show that John enlisted in Colermaime on 12 October 1815.  He was drafted to the 1st Foot Regiment.  His discharge papers show that he enlisted at Colermaime in the County of Derry (Ireland) on 20 April 1818 at the age of nineteen years to the 18th Royal Parish Regiment of Foot.  On the same day (War Office record # 12/3514/3517) he was drafted for special training for Malta service.  The same record shows he embarked for Malta on 20 March 1821.

Served in the following places: 1818 Cork, 1819 Carlow, 1818-19 Fermoy, 1819 Duncannon Fort, 1818-19 Kilkenny, 1819 Waterford, 1819 Wexford, 1820-21 Cork.  The regiment was nicknamed 'Paddy's Black Guards'.

War Office record number 12/3514-3517 (the Muster of 18th Regiment) shows the following: 18 October 1815 - Listed in Northern District Belfast; 20 March 1821 - Embarked to Malta; 24 August 1825 - Invalided in Corfu with fever.  On 20 July 1825 his discharge papers were signed at Corfu.

Royal New Zealand Fencible, arriving Waitemata Harbour, New Zealand aboard the troop ship Ramillies on 5 August 1847.

Killed in action in WW1 on 20 October 1917 in France, aged 22 years.

Private in "B" Coy, 3rd Bn, Wellington Regiment, N.Z.E.F.  Service #51005.

Peter Fidele MONIGATTI
1885-c1972

Served with the NZ Expeditionary
 Force to the Middle East during WW1.  He was a Private in the Canterbury Battalion and his number was 6/1230.  In the Evening Post of 17 May 1915, he was on the list of the wounded - "6/1230 Pte. Peter Monigatti (J.T. Monigatti, Cape Foulwind, Westport)."  According to the Evening Post of 24 June 1915, he arrived at Malta on 17 May 1915.  His rank was Lance Corporal - "Monigatti, Peter, 6/1230, L. Cpl."


 
Charles1 MOORE
b. 1799 IRE - d. 1873
NZ

Professional Irish soldier.  Served in the following countries: France 3 years, West Indies 6 years 346 days, Portugal 1 year 3 months, NSW Australia 5 years 9 months, India 2 years 92 days.

Royal New Zealand Fencible, arriving Waitemata Harbour, New Zealand aboard the troop ship Ramillies on 5 August 1847.

Served overseas.

Eric served as a cook at the Trentham army camp during WW2.



Hector2 McLean
b. 1791 SCO - d. 1879 SCO
Son of William McLean & Isobel Fraser

Hector was in the 1st Battalion 93rd regiment of FootHe was injured in the ankle in 1815 near New Orleans (America).  He was a Chelsea Pensioner.

Son of Charles Gear & Sophia Ann Bates Moore

Of 85 Adelaide Rd, Wellington, New Zealand
Volunteer Long Service Medal (Westport)

Killed in action in WW1 on 26 September 1917 in France, aged 34 years.

Rifleman in the 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, "D" Coy, 2nd Bn. 3rd, service # 24805.

Orlando Fedele "Fid" Lucio GEAR
b. 1892 NZ - d. 1965 NZ
Son of Charles Gear & Sophia Ann Bates Moore

Enlisted in WW1.  He was in the Auckland Infantry Battalion, A Company, regiment # 18903, with the rank of Sergeant Major.
