2011 AGM & Social Event

A loyal band of members met at the Sailing Club on Thursday 3rd February 2011, to chat, have a drink & nibbles and to see out the formalities of the AGM, in particular, the installation of Nick Stretton as the new Chairman - see Contacts for the new committee members. The outgoing Chairman in reviewing the past year said that undertakings had been completed at an unsurpassed level

of quality and success. Sue Mildenhall was praised, not only for her continued help throughout 2010, but also for the magnificent achievement of her 'Allo 'Allo project, which in raising £1000 for the Village Hall Appeal, has raised the overall profile of our Association.

The challenge for the years ahead is to communicate the lasting social appeal that twinning has for members to a new generation of villagers in order to boost numbers. Discussion amongst members produced some good suggestions for the way ahead.

Après Noel

Sunday 9th January 2011 noon at the Sailing Club. Once again, our post Christmas blues breaker event worked its magic for the couple of dozen members or so who attended.  Minimal organisation had no ill effects, and a jolly time was had by all.

Christmas Market in B-B

Four members - Terri Ian Anne & Richard - travelled to B-B for the annual Christmas Market, taking with them £200s-worth of seasonal goods.   An enjoyable very brief visit.

Jazz Brunch 21 November 2010

Once again our ever-popular event where the audience enjoys the music of the Gittisham Hall Jazz Band whilst eating a full English Breakfast.

'Allo! ‘Allo!

Our Village Hall Fundraising - Saturday 16 October 2010
A triumphant evening for scriptwriter, casting director, director, production and post-production debutant, Sue M, with plaudits to the cast and crew. Over 100 guests thouroughly enjoyed the whole evening comprising raffle, 'Allo 'Allo quiz, coq-au-vin & desserts, with wine in litre bottles that were consumed as easily as standard!. £1000 was raised for the Village Hall. If you missed it, a comprehensive DVD is available, contact the Chairman.

Hosting 2010  13-16 May

Once again, this event more than lived up to expectations, except perhaps for the cold and damp weather on Friday, when we cruised from Totnes to Dartmouth on the R Dart.   Lunch at Alf Resco was a hit.

The Village Hall was transformed by Tina's themed decorations on Saturday morning whilst Don Mildenhall diverted our guests with a tour of Lympstone.  The evening's Dinner and Entertainment was enjoyed by all.

Biéville-Beuville twinners presented Lympstone with a delightful apple tree in full bloom, bedecked with 'apples' bearing the names of all participants.

There very few social activities in Lympstone that give such challenges but offer such rewards.  The departure of the French was an emotional moment.      >>pre-event info.

Twinners' Tuck-In  2010

Lovely weather, 28 people brought food & drink and thoroughly enjoyed ithe afternoon in the garden on 18th April

AGM 2010

Over two dozen stalwarts with a smattering of newcomers together with the Chairman of the Parish Council, Bob Longhurst,  attended our AGM on Thursday 4th February in the Village Hall.  A lively and constructive discussion took place on the topic of recruitment and a new Committee was formed - see Ccmmittee

Après Noël 2010

Sunday 10th January - noon - Lympstone Sailing Club

26 members & guests braved icy conditions underfoot (not all without slight mishap!) to comfortably fill the Sailing Club and with a delightful range of savoury & sweet contributions, a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.  Nick & Ali provided an entertaining quiz based on twinning questions.  Many thanks to one and all for contributing, coming and making the day!

Christmas Fayre 2009

Biéville-Beuville 5th December 2009

As the regulars were not able to go this year, five heavy boxes of English Christmas items were sent for B-B's Market

Jazz Brunch 2009

Enthusiastic support was the attitude of all who took part in this year's event which one guest described as the best ever.  Certainly the Gittisham Hall Jazz Band improve with age, like a good wine, and their music was greatly appreciated.

Furry Dance Barbecue 2009

A select group of twinners were joined by hosts Anne Cornish & Jackie & Jeremy Martin to barbecue in sunshine - the persistent rain having ceased just hours before.  A very pleasant evening followed by magnificent fireworks at the harbour at 10pm.

Chairman's Chomp 2009

26 members and guests once again enjoyed the hospitality of the Christine & Ken and the culinary skills of the Cottons and the Committee, to say nothing of the superb paté and Calvados from Biéville-Beuville.

AGM  February 2009

on Friday 6th February was a most convivial as well as useful social gathering of 23 members.
Good ideas for engaging with a wider section of the Lympstone community were noted whilst the latest plans for our visit to B-B at the end of April were shown.

Apres Noel 2009

11.1.09
Two dozen members attended this social gathering in the Sailing Club and a most enjoyable time was had.

Jazz Brunch 08

23.11.08
This was clearly a great success in as much as tickets were sold out, the serving of the full English breakfast went as well as, if not better than before and the music of the Gittisham Hall Jazz Band was enjoyed as much as ever. The audience certainly were enthusiastic for a repeat performance in 2009! An added bonus is that two new-to-the-village couples expressed an interest in joining our Association!

Garden Party

13.7.08

Jill and Clive Wilson once again hosted our 'Bastille Day' Garden Party in their delightful garden and orchard. Ticket price included a cream tea with Bucks Fizz whilst a bountiful assortment of home made pies, tarts and cakes ensured no one went hungry. A smaller attendance this year in spite of no repetition of last year's rain did not detract from the friendly and relaxed afternoon. Many thanks to all those who toiled before during and after the event and to those who supported us.

Hosting

8-11.5.08
Never mind the quantity, note the quality! The number of French may have dropped to 27, but beautiful weather, good planning organisation & execution by a team of people too numerous to list here but which trebled the size of the Committee, produced a marvellous 3-day event.
Our friends from Biéville-Beuville arrived midday Thursday and swiftly dispersed to their respective host families. On Friday, Lympstonians filled empty seats on their coach as we spent a relaxed few hours at Lyme Regis including an excellent lunch at the Harbour Inn.
As hosts this year - we return to Biéville-Beuville next year - our main party piece in the Village Hall on Saturday evening was a Dinner, Entertainment and Dance with the theme of The Moulin Rouge, Toulouse Lautrec and Paris of the 1890’s Heather Redding sang Edith Piaf and ‘Les Girls’ of the Committee danced the Can Can in full regalia Not a pretty sight but entertaining – apparently! Biéville-Beuville’s twinning President Jean Badaire, announced a forthcoming formal mayoral invitation to Lympstone Parish Council & Lympstone twinners to meet with them and the twinners of Margetshöchheim in Biéville-Beuville this autumn

Twinners' Tuck-In

6.4.08
Based on the roast pork filled buns of Jo & Brian but fantastically amplified by the home and its views of our hosts Christine & Ken at Courtlands Cottage// and enjoyed by over 30 members and guests, this was a very successful and enjoyable event. A couple of conversations also resolved some questions concerning the hosting weekend and the pork, salads and desserts were delicious. Thanks to one and all.

Wine Tasting

23.2.08
Don't forget the cheese! A good gathering (23) of members and some guests met in Lympstone Sailing Club to sample six wines from France, Italy and Australia. Members who had brought the various wines each gave introductory comments on them. Three hours passed very easily so I guess it was a success.

Après Noël 2008

6.1.08
A very good gathering of nearly three dozen members and guests brought delicious and ample quantities of hot & cold main courses & sweets Apart from the fare, entertainment was in the form of a quiz on images of east Devon, devised by previous Chairman, Brian Cotton, a Lucky Dip Raffle, by Christina Thompson, and a slide show
of images from various twinning events of the last five years by the new Chairman
Many thanks to all who contributed so well and especially to those who helped toclear up afterwards. It was a very enjoyable event.
